Tammy's Accomplishments

Improved the public service to include:                                                                                                                                     

  • Created and managed 2 separate budgets.  Operating Budget of just under $1,370,00.00 and a Preservation Budget of $255,000.00 for FY 19-20.
  • Purchased a new software program for the office saving our taxpayers over $400,00.00 since 2015. 
  • Implemented a "Fraud Alert" program for the safety of our citizens' records.
  • Implemented the “Thank a Vet” incentive for all our Veterans that have sacrificed so much for our country.

  • Established a satellite office for our Citizens at the Government Center located off of Racine Drive. This office is maintained with all the services as our main office.

  • Implemented a new vital record request process via the internet which enables citizens to request and receive these documents from anywhere without having to visit our office and discontinued the costly Vital Check.
  • Created the "Love is in the Air" free wedding event held every Valentines day for 8 deserving couples. This is a collaboration between many local businesses and sponsors.
  • Partnered with the New Hanover County Tax office to make the search of property records easier to find online.
  • Established the "certified copy program" that allows citizens, attorneys and paralegals to order certified land records from their office or home.
  • Redacted thousands of social security and driver's license numbers from the public record and websites to protect New Hanover County citizens identities.
  • Converted all real estate records to a digital format dating back to 1728 and making them available online.
  • Opened the Genealogy Vault in the satellite office at the Government Center.
  • Worked with students from CFCC documenting sales of slaves dating back to 1728 and documented over 20,000 people.  This project will be completed by January 2020.
  • Expanded the real estate recording hours to 5:00 p.m. M-F.
  • Preserved 1,000 + maps, vital records and books dating back to 1728.  I have all these records in a museum temperature controlled vault. This is an ongoing project.
  • Curbside service for our citizens that are unable to come into our Vital records department.
  • Reconstructed the design of the Register of Deeds office that we relocated to 3 1/2   years ago.
  • Established the ability to record documents when the internet is down.
  • Partnered with Wilmington Cremation and Funeral home to collect American flags for proper disposal.
  • Created a more helpful and friendly atmosphere within the Register of Deeds office.
